Problem after reinstalling Office 2007 with XP SP3
My C drive crashed. Had to reinstall Office 2007 Professional. Trying to
create a simple spreadsheet this morning, I can not drag/drop page breaks and I do not have access to the PAGE SETUP toolbar in PAGE LAYOUT tab. I can access Page Break, Print area, and background only. I can't access Margins, Orientation, Size or Print titles. |

Damn! Is 2007 up to SP3 already? Are you sure you didn't mean 2003 SP3?
Although your description involving the PAGE SETUP/PAGE LAYOUT tools does sound like you're using 2007. If we're really talking about 2007, I'd start by using the Office Button | [Excel Options] | Resources and then running the Diagnostics to see if it can detect problems and fix them for you. Even if it reports no problems, if they persist, you may have to uninstall and reinstall anyhow. I'd also look at running disk diagnostics such as CHKDISK to make sure that your drive is really healthy now. "RRUFAST" wrote: My C drive crashed. Had to reinstall Office 2007 Professional. I believe he means that he has windows xp sp3 installed. It was released to
developers this spring and to everyone else in June I believe. 2007 should certainly need sp3 but I believe it is only at sp1 :) -- Regards, Peo Sjoblom "JLatham" <HelpFrom @ Jlathamsite.com.(removethis) wrote in message ... Problem after reinstalling Office 2007 with XP SP3
Yes, I was referring to Windows XP Service Pack 3.
I ran diagnostics already, nothing shown as wrong. I've also noted that in the drop down menu's on right click of teh mouse, that the same options are not valid for use. How many times can I uninstall, reinstall my version on Office 2007 Professional before the validation key locks me out? I can't afford to lose a $300 upgrade because of this.. Also- does anyone have anything else regarding my original problem and any possible cure? "JLatham" wrote: "2007 should certainly need sp3 but I believe it is only at sp1" How very true! Problem after reinstalling Office 2007 with XP SP3
Ok, bottom line: I'm not certain where the problem lies with your Office
install, but I will be thinking about it. If it were me, I'd be tempted to scrub the drive and start all over again once more, as time consuming as that is. As for "how many times", remember that there is a difference between just installing and ACTIVATING -- you can install and use both Windows and Office for a limited time without activating it. It is the activations that are generally limited. But Microsoft doesn't cut you off completely. Even if on-line activation fails, you'll be offered a phone number that you can call 24/7 and you can explain the situation to them (moving to a new machine, reloading onto a failed system as you are, whatever...) and they will give you a big-loooong number to type in to activate at that time. Be advised, you have to do this during the point in installation where you're shown the phone number and you have to enter the number right then - you can't just write it down and use it later. So, it's best to install and run for a few days to make sure the installation is "solid" before actually activating the product. "RRUFAST" wrote: Yes, I was referring to Windows XP Service Pack 3. Problem after reinstalling Office 2007 with XP SP3
Thanks for keeping me in mind. I'm not sure what is goin on. I guess I need
to play around with Word and Powerpoint as well to make sure all features are accessible in those programs as well. One thing that comes to mind.. when I originally updated to 2007 Pro over a year ago... I remember having some add ons or updates done to Office as soon as I installed. I searched for updates and found nothing and I added a few of the add ons that prompted... but I don't think that has anything to do with it as the inaccessibility was there prior to the add ons.. (If that makes sense) I will Google more when i get home from work tonight. Thanks for your help! Good luck with it. You should have SP1 for Office 2007 available to you if
you have not installed it yet. "RRUFAST" wrote: Thanks for keeping me in mind. I'm not sure what is goin on. Problem after reinstalling Office 2007 with XP SP3
Oddly enough, I downloaded the Office 2007 SP1 file.. once it downloaded, I
began to install and it advised that it was already installed on this machine. I opened Excel.. and low and behold, I now have access to the margins, orientation, size, breaks and print titles where I did not have access to them before. Odd. Just odd. Anywho, it seems to work now, so I'm happy.. :) "JLatham" wrote: Good luck with it. You should have SP1 for Office 2007 available to you if you have not installed it yet. Problem after reinstalling Office 2007 with XP SP3
Trust me, I'm as glad as you that things are working well and properly now.
Thanks for letting us know it got well for you. What can we say except perhaps "Microsoft works in mysterious ways" Or maybe at times it should be "It's a mystery Microsoft works"?? :) You will want to keep an eye and ear out for future Service Packs for Office 2007 - I think it still has a ways to go before it becomes the stable product that 2003 is. The move to 2007 was a big one and left room for a lot of uglies to sneak in.
