Default import with locked cells?

I have a sheet that has formulas in column J that calculate data that has
been imported into columns A thru H. I would like to lock the formulas in J
but when I do the import functions are greyed out. Is it possible to lock
some cells and still allow importing to other cells? I have tried selecting
Lock on the column J cells and de-selecting Lock on the other column's cells,
and then protected the sheet.
thanks,
R.
