Linking separate spreadsheets
Is there a way in Excel 2003 to link to multiple workbooks/worksheets so that
when you open a workbook with the links in it, a current copy of the linked spreadsheets are loaded into the opening workbook's worksheets? I know we can use copy/paste, but it would be nice if it could be automatic. Sort of like MS Project does. I think there is a way in Excel 2007, but I don't see a way in 2003.. |

You can use formulas in cells referencing the other workbooks. Just point to
their location in the formula, then when you open the workbook it will ask you if you'd like to connect to the other workbooks to update data or skip the update this time around. The format for pointing to another workbook in your formula is 'C:\Path\Path\[Workbook Name.xls]Sheet1'!A1 -- Please remember to indicate when the post is answered so others can benefit from it later. Will this bring in the entire worksheet from a separate workbook. I'm not
interested in specific data but the entire worksheet from another workbook. "KC Rippstein" wrote: You can use formulas in cells referencing the other workbooks. Do you need to make changes to the source file or just view the updated
information? I'm not sure if this will accomplish what you need but have you tried : Insert Object Click on the Create from File Tab Click Browse to insert the file and Check the Link to File Checkbox Hope this helps! Linking separate spreadsheets
Inserting the file (WorkBook2) per your instructions got (WorkBook2) into
the spreadsheet. (WorkBook1). Then I closed the file (WorkBook1), changed workbook2 that I inserted. I reopened workbook1 that contained the link and the changes to WorkBook2 were not reflected. In answer to your question, I don't want to change the linked workbooks just would like to get a current copy into the linking workbook. For example, I have a Logging WorkBook that I use. I would like to have a Phone list as another sheet in the Logging workbook. I would maintain the phone list separately but would like to get a current copy into the Logging WorkBook henever I open it, without having to use cut and paste. When you inserted the file did you check the box 'Link to file' in the create

Linking separate spreadsheets
I just tested and it worked for me.
Do you recieve a message when you open the file asking if you'd like to update the links? By pressing update you should see the most current information on workbook2.
