Default Is there any plan to incorporate an "Excel 2003 Menu type" structu

Is there any plan to incorporate an "Excel 2003 Menu type" structure within
Excel 2007 as a different version of Excel 2007. I HATE the ribbon . . . .
after thirty minutes of precious time searching, I can't even figure out how
to get various toolbars up (namely the form toolbar).

Do they even have the toolbar assumption anymore with this gawdy ribbon
taking up all the space?

I HATE the ribbon

The ribbon is here to stay to the foreseeable future

I can't even figure out how | to get various toolbars up

There are no 'various toolbars'. It's all on the ribbon (or whatever you
put on the QAT).

namely the form toolbar

To get the old Forms toolbar controls click the Insert control on the
Developer tab. If you do not see the Developer tab click Excel Options on
the Office button menu (the circle in the top left corner of Excel). Once
the Options dialog is open click Show Developer tab on the Popular tab.
Really, can it be more intuitive?<g

Ok Jim, I see that thank you very much.

I see how they haven't taken a lot of the flexibility out of the new program
.. . . I'll be a bit more patient until I get a "full feel" of the setup.

Thanks again.

Yes, it's hardly customizable at all. This has pros and cons. I do miss my
custom floating toolbars. On the other hand, it was so easy to customize
the old menus that many users were doing it accidentally and didn't know
they'd done it or how to recover if they did. For instance, if you just
happened to be holding the Alt key down when you clicked the File menu, and
you happened to drag the mouse a bit as you clicked the File menu, it could
disappear. That was an MS concern.

I'll not make excuses or lay blame at this point in time. I'm still getting
used to the new ribbon. Spending days finding where they've hidden some
things from me, and growling often. The Quick Access Toolbar is going to be
an overworked life saver as near as I can tell.

It appears that what they've tried to do is make the dropdowns more visible
to the 'new user'? At the expense of what, to me at least, was a very
compact, non-intrusive and customizable pair of toolbars (menu and icon).

This is such a new interface that MSFT has dedicated pages and pages to
hyping it and trying to help with it. Here are two pages, the first a
generic "how great it is" page covering the whole Office gamut, and the
second is specific to Excel, with some added links on the right side of
thepage to things like "Reference: Locations of Excel 2003 commands in Excel
2007":
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/pr...679411033.aspx
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...491511033.aspx

Hope these help keep your frustration level down to acceptable levels <g

OK, so just because MSFT is promoting the Ribbon does not mean that we can
not offer feedback. With all the Hype I'm guessing they know or expected
some frustration. An option for a "Classic Menu" would be a great option.

The guides, cheat sheets, interactive tools help. But we are anticipating
an extremely large training expense moving to Office 2007 (vs the move from
Office 97 to Office 2003). And not to mention the blow back from our users
here.

In one very big sense Microsoft has been, is and (unfortunately) will
continue to be misguided in one major way with Office: their belief that
what's GOOD! for Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. is necessarily also good
for Excel. Excel is going to suffer from ever closer integration for a long
time to come.

Personally, I think they should drop a ribbon onto Visual Studio and see how
their in-house programmers just love it.

My advice, if this is your concern: Stick to 2003.

Hi

It is possible to customise the ribbon yourself, and add a Tab with all
of the old Menu features.
There are some sites with information on how to achieve this
http://www.rondebruin.nl/ribbon.htm
http://www.rondebruin.nl/qat.htm

http://www.nickhodge.co.uk/2007files...miseribbon.htm

http://pschmid.net/index.php

There are also several 3rd party addins to achieve this if you don't
want to do it yourself, including
http://www.addintools.com/

or a free download from Shah Shailesh which works very well
http://in.geocities.com/shahshaileshs/
choose Excel Menu 2003
