Default Trendline Issues

Microsoft Office 2000

I have two graphs on one chart and both axis are used. The left axis is
based on whole numbers. The right axis is based on percentages. I have
no problem adding a trendline to the line graph using the left axis. I
cannot add a trendline to the line graph using the right axis
(percentages). When I right click the line graph and select "Add
trendline" nothing shows up. However, the "undo" feature says "Undo add
trendline". Could Excel be trying to use the left axis as reference for
this trendline?

Also, for additional information... I've had others in my workgroup
using newer versions of Excel to try to add the trendline as well. No
luck with newer versions either.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Which sub-type of line are you using? Stacked lines can not have Trendlines.

I created a line chart with 2 data series, number and percents. Placing the
percents onto the secondary axis.
When I select either series and right click I can see the Add Trendline
option.

The Trendline dialog, Type tab, allows me to pick which series to base the
trendline on.
Can you see both series in the list, Based on Series: ?

Cheers
Andy

Default Trendline Issues

Andy,
I can see both series in the list. As far as I can tell, they're both
just regular lines, not stacked. One may have markers, but still just a
regular line. I have no issue adding a trendline if both axis values
are whole numbers. It's the ones with the percentage on the secondary
axis that I am having issues with. Can you tell me what version of
Excel you're using? Maybe I've missed an update somewhere along the
way, but I'm not the only one having this issue and my version doesn't
seem to be the only one either.

I'm so confused! Thanks for your time in trying to help!

Default Trendline Issues

Ok Andy,
In all of my frustration, I realized I didn't have labels assigned to my
secondary axis. As soon as I assigned the labels, my trendline showed
up. Sooo I thought I'd figured it out and was showing my coworkers with
the same issue my fix. When one girl opened her file, she already had
both axis labels defined and no second trendline. When she deleted the
labels for the secondary axis, not only did her trendline show up, but
all 5 of them she tried to add were showing.

When I went back to another chart where I had both axis labels and
deleted my secondary ones, I could add see my trendline. I don't know
when these issues started, but I'm wondering now if an automatic update
somewhere along the way has caused a bug here...

At any rate, I at least have a work-around and will do what I can to
report it to Microsoft (do they even listen??)

Thanks for taking the time to look into this for me...
Rita
