I followed the instructions I found on this board to change the default
settings for new workbooks, and it works perfectly when I first open Excel and being a new workbook. But if the first new document is already open (Book1), and I open another new document (Book2, Book3, etc.), most of my settings are not applied. Cell alignment, column width, etc. are all back to the factory default. The only setting that seems to remain the same defaul is my font size. should I have saved multiple templates if I want to start mutiple new documents within the same Excel session? Any help would be great. |

How are you opening the new workbooks?
The BOOK.XLT you placed into your XLSTART folder will not be the new workbook if you open a "blank workbook" from the Task Pane. To access the BOOK.XLT you must hit the "New" from FileNew. Note no ellipsis after "New". Or the New File button on Toolbar If you hit FileNew...(note the ellipsis) you will get Excel's default book, not the one with your settings. Thanks for explaining that! I will use FileNew from now on to start a new
workbook. I would like to send this info out to the rest of my department, because I know a lot of people are unhappy with the default settings and would like to use their own. But many of them use the Task Pane to start new workbooks. So I am wondering if there is any way to change the template used when I select the "Blank Workbook" option from the Task Pane? "Blank workbook" cannot be changed.
Excel has this programmed somewhere. I have spent much time going through Registry but never any success. Gord On Thu, 22 Jun 2006 09:47:02 -0700, bejewell wrote: Thanks for explaining that!
