Is there a way I can detect if any cell is a certain color in a range of cells?

It depends what you want to do, there have been a few questions already
regarding counting or summing the contents of coloured cells and there are
some links. If you type colored cells into the search on this discussion
forum, you might find what you want.

I took a look and I see how to count in VB, but more specifically what I am
looking for is a formula to return a TRUE or FALSE if there is a certain
color in a range, color RED.

Can I do this as a function in Excel, I believe the link shows ways to do it
in VB. Basically I have a range of cells, and I want to TRUE or FALSE answer
as to whether any of them are RED.

you need VBA. There's no worksheet formula for this
