Default Self-Contained "Database" file?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if something out there existed that created sel
containend databases and user-interfaces? What I mean is... I want t
create an exe, that when transfered to any computer, can be opened
display a database (stored in the exe). It's values can be altered an
saved back into the exe. Maybe it's impossible as the exe would have t
be recompiled everytime? But I'm wondering if it's doable, because thi
would be a great little tool.

Alternatively, if there is not something out there like this... coul
excel do something similar without having to boot into excel everytim
you want to make changes? thank

You can do this with Access, creating an mde file, but not with
Excel.

If you have access to VB6 it would be simple to make and .exe that shows
your data in a form. The data itself could be in a text file or files. Just
zip the 2 or more files and pass it on.
There are also some free-ware programs around that do something similar.
