Which method is faster
I have a fairly large spreadsheet that keeps growing and has become slower and slower to load/save, maneuver. I really like the way the sheet works as I type in one number it is automatically updated to about 10-15 different sheets. I was wondering which of the two methods would be faster? The workbook currently has about 175 worksheets. (I use it for tracking performance for a cross country team with individual and season stats) Anyway, would it be faster if I kept each "season" as a separate file and just used one main page that links to the individual worksheets in the separate files......or......keep it as is considering each year adds about 25 worksheets to the total workbook? Which method is faster
I don't think any of us can answer this question since we don't know how
your workbook is set up or how it works. Each method you're considering has its pros and cons. But I would ask this question - I suppose you have sheets for, say, the 2000 season. And you have (I suppose) summary sheets that reference the 2000 season and other seasons. Do the 2000 season stats ever change? I would think not at this point. So why do you need formulas that reference to 2000 sheets? Can't they (the formulas) be converted to values? And then the 2000 sheets can be moved to their own workbook as backup, can they not? -- Jim "matpoh" wrote in message ... | | I have a fairly large spreadsheet that keeps growing and has become | slower and slower to load/save, maneuver. Which method is faster
I really dont have formulas that reference the sheets, but I do have one "main menu" page that hyperlinks to all the individual sheets. What I am thinking is pretty much what you suggested, put each new season in its own file and just link to those files. Currently the workbook is about 3-4 megs and it takes a while to open and save, but moving within the workbook from sheet to sheet is pretty quick. -- matpoh ------------------------------------------------------------------------ matpoh's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=27024 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=477923 |
