THe icons at the top of my screen are very large. They use to be normal. How
do I return them to normal.

right click on the toolbar and select customise, go to options and unselect
large Icons. Why it happens, I do not know.

View menu, Toolbars, Customize. Click the Options tab and turn of Large Icons
option.
