Default "Alt - I - R" problem

About two weeks ago when I was trying to insert a row I found that my "Alt -
I - R" function was not working. After asking around, I found this has
happened to other people.
Can anyone help tell me what I have done or how to fix this problem...so
that I can use "Alt - I - R" in order to insert a row?

Thanks,
Doug

If the worksheet protection is enabled ALT + I + R along with many other
commands will not be available.

Check at ToolsProtection.

Where does it break?

If it breaks with the alt-i, hit alt-i again and see if you get another menu
item highlighted.

If you hit alt-i a few times, you may be able to see the highlighted options
toggle on and off.

If there are two items that have the same accelerator key, the excel won't know
which one you want. (If you hit enter with one highlighted, you may be able to
see where it is, too.)

Dave -
Thank you for the message....it does break after alt-i (the row and column
functions are greyed out and cannot be selected). I tried alt-i several times
with no luck toggling the row or column function on.

And you're sure that the worksheet is not protected?

What version of excel are you using? In xl2k and below, you can't insert
columns in a range that is filtered (without removing that filter). I'm not
sure if the option is greyed out, though.

===
Some questions...

Does this happen on all your workbooks--or just one?
Does it happen in all the worksheets in that workbook or just one?

If you start excel in safe mode:
close excel
windows start button|run
excel /safe

does it work ok?

===

How about tools|Customize|toolbars tab
select worksheet menu bar
click reset

Did that help?

===

And you're positive that alt-i doesn't swap between two different options???

Never mind about the alt-i swapping between options. I reread your response and
you said that the options show up, they're just disabled.
