hi
high light the text in the formula bar. right clcik the formula bar and click format cell. remove the strikethrough. press enter. highlight the word that you want to have the strikethrough in the formula bar. right click the formula bar. check strikethrough. press enter. done. the trick is that this in all done in the formula bar not the cell. copying data from one cell to another in a workbook in Excel 2
Hi FSt1
Thank you for your repsonse, the problem is, the destination cell contains dates..each time an extension is requested, the user puts a strikethrough the old date, inserts a new date. This data should be updated on the main page (introduction). Hopefully this can be done automatically. Does this make sense? Thanks so much! I am unable to post graphics or screen shots.
07/2008 this would have a strikethrough 08/2008 this would have a strikethrough 09/2008 -------- Test Then all the items havea strikethrough. Does this make sense? copying data from one cell to another in a workbook in Excel 2
hi
i know you can't post those but you can type in the data as it apears in the cell. do you mean when someone puts a strikethrough on a date, they then enter a second date in the same cell? the technique i posted would work for that because with 2 dates in a cell, excel interpets that as text. you said in your original post that.... some of the data has a strikethrough.... but after the past...... all the text contains the strikethrough this is what i am going on. regards FSt1 "Deb" wrote: I am unable to post graphics or screen shots. 07/2008 this would have a strikethrough 08/2008 this would have a strikethrough 09/2008 -------- Test Then all the items havea strikethrough. copying data from one cell to another in a workbook in Excel 2
Hi there..
Yes the cell would contain 5 dates with a resp. ind. name...4 dates have a strikethrough...since they either missed the deadline or filed for an extension...there is only one date that does not have a strikethrough...it is easy enough to do with one cell (manually) but there are multiple cells....and this data gets pulled and posted on a cover sheet (worksheet). Is there another way to link to cells to where the destination cells just pulls data and the format from another cell? Thanks a million! copying data from one cell to another in a workbook in Excel 2
hi
question. how were you doing the strikethroughs before?????? links wont do it. they can draw data but not formating. there is a way to do it with a macro but that would require knowing the exact start and stop points within each cell. and with up to 5 dates in a cell, that might reguire up to 5 select cast to check for cell length to determine how much of the cell to strike through. And if this is a manual process, the room for macro error increases because of the exact start and stop points. so to write a macro, i would need to see the data. all of it. you can send me the file to FSt1one<atyahoodotcom. change <at to the at symble and dot to the dot symble. otherwise you are stuck the the manual process i posted earlier.
