Default new office docs not showing up in recent items folder

I am seeing the same issue. Because not all users in my office have upgraded to 2007, our IT dept has set all new 2007 save as functions to save in 2003 formats (xls instead of xlsx). Not sure if that is part of the problem or not. I am going to change this and see if it makes any difference over the next week.
