Default How do i convert a date into 3 seperate columns?

I have a spreadsheet with dates shown as DD.MM.YYYY in text in a single
column but I would like this to be represented as 3 seperate columns. One for
day, one for month and one for year. Does anyone know a formula or command to
do this?
Many thanks,
Tony
