Default Read Only Prompt

I would like an Excel file to ask the user whether they would like to open a
file as read only when they open the file. How do I go about doing this?
Thanks!

I am not sure which Excel version you have..however if you have 2003 then you
should do this..

On the file 'Save As' dialog box you have a menu option as 'Tools'. Under
this option select 'Save Options' and select 'Read only recommended'.

This will always prompt the user whenever they open the file.

Hope this helps!!

FileSave AsToolsGeneral Options.

Checkmark in "read only".

Note: user will get a message when opening the workbook.

User can choose to open as readonly or not readonly.

Is that what you want?
