Calculation - Automatic and Manual
I'm running MS-Office 2003 Professional w/SP2. I have found an odd behavior
with 2 different Excel worksheets that I wanted to confirm if this is standard for Excel. One of the files has many formulas and is set to automatic calculation within Tools, Options. I have another file that also has many formulas, but it's set to manual (recaculation before save). If I open the automatic file, make changes, save and close the file and then open the manual file, the settings for this second file are changed to automatic from manual. If I fully close Excel before switching between the two different files, the settings are kept correctly. Is this normal behavior for Excel 2003? If so, how can I get the settings to stay with each file? Thanks. Ken |

Calculation - Automatic and Manual
I don't have XL03, but what should happen is if the auto WB is opened,
saved and closed, *AND NO OTHER WB IS LEFT OPENED*, And you open the manual WB, it should retain it's original calc mode. I believe that even in XL07, the rule is that the calc mode is set for the session, by the first WB opened. BUT, if all WBs are closed (blank screen), the next WB opened that has been previously saved (which is now considered the first), will set the mode, without having to open and close the app itself. This doesn't count for new, default, blank WBs. Don't forget, when you open XL, usually the first WB opened is the default WB, which is usually set to auto. But opening a previously saved WB sets the calc mode, not the default one. Conversely, opening and closing a manual WB, and leaving a blank screen, will cause any subsequently opened default, blank WB, to pick up the manual mode. Kind of confusing ... isn't it?<g But do remember, no matter what is opened or closed first, any WB opened, and then closed *without* a save, will retain it's original mode, no matter what! -- Regards, RD ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please keep all correspondence within the Group, so all may benefit ! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "shepcon" wrote in message ...
