Default List auto-expansion with protected worksheet

With Excel 2003, when I protect the worksheet the lists will no longer auto
expand. But if I don't protect the worksheet, the formulas are at risk.

Is there a way to keep the auto-expansion active while still protecting my
formulas?

Thanks for your help,
GH
