Default Plus symbol at top of page

I have inherited a Excel Spreadsheet that has what looks like sumtotals
format at the top of the page. They are not subtotals. What they do is
expand some hiden columns whereby some columns have numbers and some do not,
however they all total to the one at the top. This is what it looks like
across the top.
+ + + + + + + + etc.

When you click on one of the plus symbols it opens multiple columns that are
hidden from the one.?????

Help
Confused.

And you're looking to know how they were created????

Select some columns and do
data|Group and outline

and you'll see.
