In XL2003 I could put a text box on a chart and mark it to NOT print with the
chart. Having upgraded to XL2007 I can't find how to do that and previous (2003) spreadsheets that had non-printable text boxes now print those boxes in XL2007. Can anyone help, please? -- Andrew |

Bernard,
Thank you for your reply. That is certainly true when I place a text box on a worksheet but when it is on a chart the "Print Object" option is not available; not greyed out, just not there. Is the text box 'grouped' to the chart?
If so, it is treated as part of the chart best wishes -- Bernard Liengme Microsoft Excel MVP http://people.stfx.ca/bliengme "AndrewR" wrote in message ... Bernard, Thank you for your reply. Bernard,
It is not grouped to the chart. If I create a text box on a worksheet I see the "Print Object" checkbox; if I cut it and paste it to the chart that option is gone. Put it back on the sheet and it's there. It certainly appears that this functionality has been removed in going from XL2003 to XL2007. -- Andrew "Bernard Liengme" wrote: Is the text box 'grouped' to the chart? I followed what you did: cut and paste a text box to a chart
I agree that the Print boxes have disappeared in the Properties dialog of Format Shape However, this method also groups the box and the chart - if I move the chart the box moves with it so they are grouped If I use the command Insert | Text box and draw the box over the chart, then I get a box that is not grouped and I can set the print properties. Note that the chart must NOT be selected before you draw the box as this will group the two. best wishes -- Bernard Liengme Microsoft Excel MVP http://people.stfx.ca/bliengme "AndrewR" wrote in message ... I should also have said: rather than cut & paste the text box into chart,
you can also drag the box over the chart, and the two will not be grouped. best wishes -- Bernard Liengme Microsoft Excel MVP http://people.stfx.ca/bliengme "AndrewR" wrote in message ... Bernard,
Thanks for your help. I think I see my problem; I have created the chart on a separate sheet, rather than on the data sheet. I copied my chart to the data sheet and, sure enough, I can put a text box on it. However, I still can't move the chart AND the text box to a new sheet, so I will have to find out how to work with it on the data sheet. Probably not a problem but it's annoying that I could do this in 2003 but not now. Oh well, never mind. Again, thanks. -- Andrew "Bernard Liengme" wrote: I followed what you did: cut and paste a text box to a chart I agree that the Print boxes have disappeared in the Properties dialog of Format Shape However, this method also groups the box and the chart - if I move the chart the box moves with it so they are grouped If I use the command Insert | Text box and draw the box over the chart, then I get a box that is not grouped and I can set the print properties.
