I have a clustered column chart and I selected the €œCenter€� option for data
labels. When I change the chart type to clustered cylinder, my data labels
move to the top of the cylinders, and there is no longer a €œCenter€� option
for data labels.

I would like my data labels centered (i.e., shown in the middle of each
cylinder) without having to move them manually. Is there a work-around? I
am using Excel 2007.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Oh, the joys of 3d charts...

Since the label is positioned in the center of the cylinder front-to-back,
XL won't let you put the label in middle top-to-bottom (as it would be inside
the image). However, the bigger question is, why are you wanting to take up
extra space in your chart and create image distortion with a 3d graph? A
simple 2d column chart would show the same info, and be much clearer.

At the very least, if you decide to keep the 3d chart, at least make sure
the gap depth is set to 0. Otherwise it's almost impossible to see where the
top of the cylinder lines up with on the y-axis.

Hi Luke,

Per your response, it appears that what I am attempting to do cannot be
done. I guess it is a matter of personal taste, but I find the 2-D charts
boring when compared to the 3-D charts. I realize it can be more difficult
for someone to see where the top of the cylinder lines up on the y-axis, but
to compensate, I already have set the gap depth to zero.

Hi,

The choice of 3d chart will preclude you from using the secondary axis
option, which would be a work around towards your other problem.
