Default Resetting the color palette

I have a problem with resetting the color palette. I am using Excel 2003 SP3
on Windows XP Professional.
If i open Excel and a new spreadsheet (SS1) and look at the color palette i
see the default. I then open an existing spreadsheet (SS2) which has a
modified palette. If i then look back at SS1 and drop down the color palette
what i see is the modified palette from SS2.

If i go back to SS2 and do ToolsOptionsColor, i can click on Reset as many
times as i can but the modified palette will not revert to the default.

I can't copy the palette from SS1 because it thinks it has been modified.

any ideas how to reset the palette in SS2? thanks.
