Default XL2003SP2: This workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated.

How do I get rid of the above error message when I open the workbook?

I have tried unchecking the "Update remote links" and then save the file,
close it out and close out of Excel, then reopen the file only to find that
the file has that optioned checkmarked once again. I want to get rid of
this error message as it's so much of an annoyance, why should I have to
click on it every single time when I go to open my 4 financial files, which
I updated at the minimal once a week, and generally more like daily unless
I'm on vacation or I got to be so busy that I haven't had a chance to update
it.

Sincerely,

Ronald R. Dodge, Jr.

Try this, download FindLink.zip from Bill Manville,

That will only go out and find the links, which prior versions didn't
have that option too readily available, thus one about had to use
macros to find external links within every single worksheet of
workbooks. However, starting with XL2002, that option has been
available via the additional options such as look within worksheet or
look within workbook in addition to the option that has been in prior
versions, look at values or look at formulas.

I have used this tool in the past, but it doesn't address the same
issues as what I'm facing now. The problem lies more in the fact that
Excel is trying to reach to those external sources even though the
workbooks aren't opened. I do believe, I just found the answer to this
question, and here's the answer, though still not sure if it will keep
this result cause of it going back and forth between 2002 and 2003.

Within Excel 2003, for the impacted files, follow the steps one by
one:

Goto EditLinks...

Click on Startup Prompts...

Select the option, "Don't display the alert and don't update automatic
links."

This seems to work within the version, but I still have yet to verify
if this works between versions.

Thanks,
