Default Ms Project Predessors w/two predessors

Project is built backwards from shipdate.
Task in question has two predessors.
Need to have the system pick-up the earlier date rather than the later date.
How?

Task 20 Financial approval for purchase orders, with predessors of 30FS
Place Purchase Order (8/28/09) and 40FS Place Purchase Order (10/01/09)
minus two weeks.

Task 20 calualates 9/17/09 (coming from task 40) instead of task 30fs-2wks,
8/14/09.

Maybe try a project newsgroup rather than Excel?
