Default Margin of Victory

I want to finish a worksheet that calculates the difference between the two
scores of a football game. Example: My team is Philadelphia this week and
they beat yhe Dallas Cowboys 38 - 7. Since I chose the Eagles as my team
this week I receive the difference between 38 and 7, or 31 points. Another
guy in the same pool who has Dallas gets a score of -31. The the pool name
the "margin of Victory".
I have everything ready with the exception of how to get Excel 2003 to
calculate the difference for (1) Philadelphia and (2) the poor guy that chose
Dallas that week.
One I get the calculation of the same score to generate two answers the only
other thing I have to do is have excel recognize that anyone (of the 25 of us
in the pool) that chose PHL (the Philadelphia Eagles) be appropriated the 31
points and vice versa I'll be done. I thought I could figure this part out
but have not been able. It's now week 9. HELP

Default Margin of Victory

I've run a few pools in my time! If you want to send a copy of the file to
me I'll fix it up for you. Just let me know how to contact you.

Default Margin of Victory

TRIED TO E-MAIL AT YOUR PROFILE ADDRESS, BUT!!!

Hey Biff,
I really want to learn more of this Excel program and am committed to making
this project happen. I really want to do it myself. It's one of those
alpha male isocracies.
Up to 32 different teams play, up to 16 games every week as you know I'm
sure. The value I need to associate with each teams specific abbreviation is
the value that represents the difference between each teams win, or loss.
Whichever the case may be each week.
I enter the chosen teams abbreviation and the individual scores of each
game. EX:
Pittsburg 32 - Arizona 24
Anyone that chooses Pitt. that week gets 8 points (the"Margin of
Pittsburgh's Victory") added to his running total. If someone that same
week chose Arizona, they would receive negative (-) 8 points to their running
total. (the " Margin of " Arizona's loss)
I can't figure out the formula needed to calculate that:
Pitt = +8 and Zona = -8 so, I've been doing that part in my head. What I
have runs smoothly but I know Excel has the capability of doing it for me. I
just can't find it! I have to enter the final scores every week.

I think that say's it all but can certainly answer any specific questions.
Below is a copy of my post. I would appreciate any help.

I am sending this via an old address until I'm sure your not collecting
addresses. Any computer "ist" should understand.

Thanks for the offer and I hope you understand my choice of reply.

The reason I suggested you send the file is because I (or anyone else) would
need to know how the data is setup.

Where is all the pertinent data that needs to be used in the calculation?
The formula to do this is totally dependent on the setup.

If you want to send the file I'm at:

xl can help at comcast period net

Remove "can" and change the obvious.
