Default Hyperlink question

Hello,

we use Office97 in our office.

I put a hyperlink to a Word-document in an Excel-Sheet.
When I click on the hyperlink the Word-document opens
but the Excel-sheet closes (Excel still runs, only the
sheet closes).

I don´t always want to right-click the hyperlink and
use "Open in a new window". Is there an other way to
implement a hyperlink, that doesn´t close the
Excel-sheet?

Thanks a lot

Does it help to use
Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / File Types / DOC / Advanced
and uncheck Browse in same window?
