Default Where's the plain old database functionality?

Hi all,
Probably an outdated question but I'm keen on doing some simple
database works inside Excel. I know that some might suggest to go for
Access but my idea is simple.
In the version 4 of Excel, I used to build an area for the data,
another area for the criteria, and an area where the outcome will
appear. This is exactly what I'm after now (inside Excel XP) but the
Data menu does not show the relevant functions.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You put them anywhere now and specify the location in the database functions
or in Advanced Filter.
