Default how to identically size merged cells for filtering use

I'm trying to filter a column in Excel. I've added an auto filter to the
column, but when I hit the arrow to filter alphabetically ascending, it
quotes "This operation requires the mergec cells to be identically sized."
But it doesn't tell me how to do it and I've not found it on the website,,,
Please help!
Thanks

When you use filter or sorter in excel NO CELLS CAN BE MERGE in list.
So unmerge celss in the list and try again.
