Default why does Excel see my simple formulae as macros now?

why does Excel see my simple formulae as macros now? Cells will not
automatically recalculate when that function is enabled. virus
scan/spyware/firewall all up to date and active. I don't use macros, so how
did Excel convert simple "divide this cell by that cell" into macros that
don't even work?

Not sure what you mean by "see as macros".
Did you check ToolsOptionsCalculation tab, Automatic?
Did you check ToolsOptionsView tab, UNcheck Formulas?

I think you might mean that they show as text rather than the values.
In this case format the cells as general and click F2.

Hope this helps.

yes, those options are set correctly. First, when I tried to reopen the
document, I got a message about macros. I never put macros in the
spreadsheet. If I enter new values or change existing values, the
spreadsheet does not automatically recalculate...it is "seeing" the formulae
and macros that must be run to recalculate. I have Excel 2000. Error
massage said macrs were created using Excel 4.0. Never owned Excel 4.0.
