I am using xp Home edition, and excel 2002. I have a spread sheet for my
accounting that while I put data in the cells the formula will change in selected cells. I have across the top marked into 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th weeks. In the cells going down I have different accounts the income is given credit for. In this formula it is set up =sum(A1:E1)-F1+H1. The E1 inside the( ) will change when I put the amount spent from the account. I am not using a - sign with the spent figure, being it is in the formula. the formula will change the E1 to F1 when I click enter or the up or down arrows. CAN ANYONE HELP? |

Thanks Max, but this did not fix the problem. I have 11 accounts in the same
block and all of them work ok except this one. It is in the 5th cell down, some accounts above and some below. "Max" wrote: Just a wild guess .. Perhaps you were "accidentally" caught in edit mode? Is there any one else that has an idea? So far no one with the correct answer.

Earl, sorry, it's just me again, the "wild guesser" <g Perhaps, to enhance the chances of receiving other responses in this instance, think you could try uploading a small, "sanitized" sample of your file via a free filehost, and then include the generated *link* to it in your response here for those interested to take a look at your file. This would also help to keep ensuing discussions, if any, open to all within the newsgroup, for the benefit of all. Some free filehosts that could be used: http://www.flypicture.com/ http://cjoint.com/index.php http://www.savefile.com/index.php For cjoint.com (it's in French), just click "Browse" button, navigate to folder select the file Open, then click the button centred in the page below (labelled "Creer le lien Cjoint") and it'll generate the link. Then copy & paste the generated link as part and parcel of your query. Kindly note that no attachments should be posted *directly* to the newsgroups Good luck ! -- Rgds Max xl 97 --- Singapore, GMT+8 xdemechanik http://savefile.com/projects/236895 -- |

Hi Max:
At this point I do not feel any idea is just a wild guess, I appricate any help I can get. I did try to do what you said before but was unable to figure out just how to do it. You gave me the instructions as to how. I am having to leave town for about a week starting today. I am going to make the effort to do this at the remote location, I have someone there that is more knowledgable about this accounting than I. Thank you very much Max for your lead!! So far the suggestions haven't worked but appreciate your time.
We have posted a copy on the work sheet on" www.flypicture.com" that you can go in and download. We have high-lighted the cells that are giving us problems. Yesterday, there were even more cells that were not copying and pasting correctly. Am wondering if there is a possibility of a virus. What do you think??? We have enclosed some notes on the right side of the work sheet that might help to explain our problem. ALSO, we have posted the worksheet in www.flypicture.com BUT we don't seem to be able to go in and pull it back up. Would appreciate if you would explain that procedure in your response. Hope the spreadsheet will be beneficial to you in seeing the problems. Hope to hear from you soon, EARL "Ragdyer" wrote: See if this might help: <Tools <Options <Edit tab, And *UNCHECK* "Extend List Formats And Formulas". Earl, you need to copy paste the generated *link* in your response. The
link will be generated when you upload the file in flypicture (when you click "Upload"). But please ensure that your sample file is virus-free. -- Rgds Max xl 97 --- Singapore, GMT+8 xdemechanik http://savefile.com/projects/236895 -- |

The generated link when you upload will look something like this:

1/5/06 Max: The above link is the location of the spreadsheet that we are having trouble with the cell problems. We have high-lighted the problem cells. When working with the spreadsheet this week-end, there seemingly were additional cells that began changing in copy/paste mode. When pasting to the next month's spreadsheet, we paste special as 'values' which one would think would bring them over as EXACT numbers. However, one cell pasted .02 cents short of the copied amount, and the other cell pasted .11 cents short of the copied amount. This is really mind-boggling!!! Thanks for your help on the procedure to generate a link. Hopefully you will be able to pull the worksheet up and help figure this out. Also, thanks to Max and Ragdyer for your interest and assistance up until now. Hope to hear from you soon on your ideas. Took a look at your file, Earl, but I couldn't see anything wrong with it.
Note that I'm using only Excel 97 here, so I won't know about / "experience" the new features found in the later versions, such as the steps mentioned in RD's views. For eg: I don't have this option: "Extend List Formats And Formulas" under: Tools Options Edit tab. The copy paste special values part also worked ok, based on my testing here on your sample file. There were no discrepancies in the values pasted from the formula cells (tested a couple). Think that's about all I have further for you. Perhaps others may step in with their diagnosis / views .. -- Rgds Max xl 97 --- Singapore, GMT+8 xdemechanik http://savefile.com/projects/236895 -- "EARL" wrote in message ... http://flypicture.com/file/?id=rtn2k63c 1/5/06 Max: The above link is the location of the spreadsheet that we are having trouble with the cell problems. Max & Ragdyer: Thanks for your quick response. I will check my home computer for a virus or some other problem that I might spot. It seems to be working right now at a different location. I will be at my home computer tomorrow (Friday) and will check it to see if it is still giving me the errors. Will check it out and let you know. Thanks again. Hi again:
I really did not mean to be so long getting back to you about the problem. i tried working with the spreadsheet on my own computer and got the same response as before. I did try Ragdyer's suggestion to uncheck "Extended list formats and formulas". I reworked and it seems that it did not change the formula right now. I will continue to work with it, I guess only time will tell. I also read in Connie Martins Question "FORMULA CHANGES ON OWN ACCORD IN" EXCEL WORKSHEET FUNCTIONS THAT IT COULD BE RELATED TO DELETED CELLS. I will be watching for a possibility in that area. Thanks so much for all your help, Max and Ragdyer!!! "Max" wrote: Took a look at your file, Earl, but I couldn't see anything wrong with it. For better visibility*, I would suggest that you consider putting in afresh as a new query/post should you wish to pursue further at a future point in time. *this thread is already quite "old" and long in the tooth <g All the best .. -- Rgds Max xl 97 --- Singapore, GMT+8 xdemechanik http://savefile.com/projects/236895 -- |
