Default In Excell how do I just type in an amount w/o it inserting a $

I am putting in Hours for Students. I have like 152.5 hours and when I put in
into a row or column it automatically enters a $ symbol. What can I disable
(if anything) to make it not do that?

Format--Cells, and choose Number tab. Then choose Number, 2 decimals (or
however many you want), instead of currency.
