Default Vlookup Sum

Hi, I'm having troubles Summing Vlookups. My worksheet has:
A B
05-May-05 2300
06-May-05 6000
07-May-05 4200
08-May-05 9100
09-May-05 2600
10-May-05 1500

Well, I need to SUM amounts of a period like 05 to 09 May using a Vlookup.
I'm trying something like SUM(Vlookup...:Vlookup), but it doesn't work!!
Could someone help me pls. Thanks!!

Default

One way:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A1000=DATE(2005,05,05),
--(A1:A1000<=DATE(2005,05,09), B1:B1000)
