Default Sumproduct - range as criteria

Can I have a range of cells as my sumproduct criteria?

column A has PayTypes
Normal
Otime
Annual
column B has area
area1
area2
area3
column C has Pay
1000
2000
etc
Column D has Dates

I have an area Q2:Q5 with Pay types listed and want to sum by any I put in
that area for various scenarios

Any help appreciated

Try it like this:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(ISNUMBER(MATCH(A2:A10,Q2:Q5,0))),..........
