adding more data to pivot table.
I add data to an exsisting pivot table every day and month. When I added a
new month, it added the new data to the bottom of the pivot table instead of adding it to the correct column. example: Jan Feb Mar Apr John Smith 5 2 6 April Jones 2 1 4 3 John Smith 2 B. Smith 3 Why does it add below and not at top under the month? I've tried the options, doesn't fix it. |

Shawna,
You cannot add columns within the piviot. I have had the best luck adding the columns for additional data to the right of the orginal Pivot. It is a little unclear how you added the additional data Jacqueline "shawna" wrote: I add data to an exsisting pivot table every day and month. adding more data to pivot table.
Thank you for such a fast response. Let me give you more detail.
I have a monthly report to which I add new data daily. When a new month comes in, I add the new data for the new month, and also add a YTD. Yesterday, I added all data up to end of July, with no YTD. Pivot was fine. Today I added Aug data with YTD and pivot moved July data to bottom of pivot and August to the correct location. In other words, it gave me duplicate names with their July results pushed down to the bottom of the pivot table. Never had this happen before. I also wonder why the new data is not inserted to exsisting data and not just added to the bottom of the pivot. "Jacqueline" wrote: Shawna, You cannot add columns within the piviot. adding more data to pivot table.
hummm, not sure why this would happen. Are you adding your new columns to the
right of the Pivot? You cannot add data in the middle of a pivot. Is your pivot data static; or is it updated from your spread sheet? If the data is static, I have had the best luck with copy the pivot, then use Paste Special and paste in Values only into a new worksheet. Then placing your additional moths should work. Otherwise, delete the Aug column and try adding it again with blank column between the pivot and the additonal data. It is so hard trying to figure this out when I cannot actually see what you are working with. I hope some of this helps. Jacqueline "shawna" wrote: Thank you for such a fast response.
