Default If Function returning 0 instead of cell value

I have entered this statement =SUM(IF(DataEntry!$O38=$A$1,DataEntry!F38)). I
know that it is correct as it is returning the correct infromation. the
problem is that it is returning a 0 for anything with text in it but will
return the correct inforamtion for date or $100. i.e. if F38 is hello
friends it returns 0 but if F38 is $100 it returns $100 please tell me how i
can get the text to show up.

thank you.
