Default Format Changes 2007

I am trying to change the format from number to text, and then back to
number. I am able to make the changes to the format, but when trying to
change a selection of cells that already has data in it I am unable to get
the change to take effect on all cells at one time. Instead, I have to click
into each cell, and then once I leave the cell It updates to the new format.
This is very time consuming. Is there a quicker way to update all of the
cells data?

Say you have numbers in A1 thru A100 and need text. Format B1 thru B100 as
Text.

Then copy A1 thru A100 and paste/special/value onto column B. Your data
will be in Text format.

You can do the same in reverse.

I am still unable to have the changes take affect. I tried your solution,
but the cells did not change there display. As before the format changed
behind the scenes, but not the data. The cells are made up of formulas that
pull data into this spreadsheet from another. Any other Suggestions?
