Default compare and merge workbooks

Using Excell 2003 program stops responding saves file then recovers the file
but it is about half the original size. Under tools I would like to use the
compare and merge function to compare the original with the recoverd file but
it is greyed out. Any help would be great. Also is Excell compressing the
file or am I losing data. Thanks

The compare and merge workbooks is only available when the workbook is
shared under ToolsShare Workbook.

Maybe you were thinking of WindowCompare side by side with when you have
two workbooks open.

Thank you very much for the help. The compare and merge function does not
appear to do what I had hoped it would. What I wanted to do was compare two
different spreadsheets that should contain identical data and have any
differences noted or highlighted. Thanks again.

Earl, that's what I want to do. How do I compare 2 Excel workbooks (same
layout, etc) automatically? Did you find your answer?
