=1/tan(a1)

But A1 holds radians--not degrees.

If A1 holds degrees, then:
=1/tan(radians(a1))
or
=1/tan(a1*pi()/180)

Look in Excel's help for Tangent.

As a side note, it appears to me that "Derived Math Functions" was removed
from help in Excel 2007.
This link, I believe, is very similar to what was in Excel help in prior
versions...
