Default Negative number formats?

Importing a text file into Excel. Negative #s have "<" around them and not
recognized as #s. Any ideas on how to get them formatted as negative numbers?

Highlight the cells and do Find & Replace (CTRL-H) as follows:

Find What:
Replace With: (leave blank)
click Replace All

CTRL-H again:

Find What: <
Replace With: -
click Replace All

Hope this helps.

Pete
