Shortcut Date entry problem

In the past by using ctrl+; I have been able to, using formatted cells show
e.go. 14 Mar. All of a sudden I cannot. What I get is 14-03-2007.

My short date is set in Regional Settings as dMMMyy.

Vista Business and Excel 2007.
