Default Dropdown list function

This formula works in my working out spreadsheet

=IF($I$33=$J$33,$L$26:$L$27,)

but if I do the same in the register I am using it gives me the message

"the list source must be a delimited list, or a reference to a single row or
column"

Would anyone know why this is?
