Default date format...3.1.2010

Hi all
Excamble:
In the cell: 3.1.2010, formula bar looks-- 3.1.2010 9:21:48 AM. Cell format
is general, why?

How I change this to 3.1.2010?

Because it is a text string, not a date. You would need to chop the time
element off.
