Default Office 2003 vs. Office 2000 performance

Ok, I know this is a very open-ended question but any help will be
greatly appreciated. I am developing workbooks for the current version
of my companies software. We have the ability for users to import
workbooks from previous versions of our software. On computers using
Office 2000 the process takes about 2 minutes which is fine, however on
Office 2003 the process takes up to 15 minutes. I have the task of
improving this perfomance, but am quickly running out of ideas. If
anyone knows of any websites, forums or any source of knowledge that
they would like to share, I would greatly appreciate any help.
