Default Change Data Source

There is an Excel Spreadsheet getting data from a SQL
Server via MS Query.

We have to send this Excel file to a consultant. However,
he says that he is not able to change the Data Source. We
would like to know is there any workaround ?

Thanks

Default Change Data Source

Alfred

He should be able to by going into the data wizard again (Either standard
data or pivot table) and pressing 'back'. It should then point to the
existing source, or give an error at which point he should be able to
connect to a new one.

If not, accepting the error should eventually allow you to edit the query in
MSQuery and you can reconnect from here

In other words, when he opens the query:
Data -- Get External Data -- Edit Query, he gets an
error message and prompts for the Server Name.

What he needs to do is to change that Server Name to his
Server Name and corresponding Login ID as well.

In this way, he can access the query without problem ?

Thanks

Alfred

Have you checked you can't simply edit the query under the external data
menu option?

If you have, normally taking one of the options in the error will arrive at
another error that says something like 'MsQuery cannot return any data', at
that point you are given an option to edit the query. Can't replicate
currently as I don't have a workbook here with data connection, but I'm sure
that's an approximation of what happens.
