Default Importing Data

Can I populate spreadsheets with data from Access
tables and/or text files and have the formulas that are
defined remain intact. For example, if C1 is defined as
=D1/2, I want to populate D1 and derive C1. My attempts
to do this have been unsuccessful. If you can point me to
the appropriate documentation I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Ron
