Web links in Excel closing workbook
Hello All! And thanks for all help past and present!
I have web links in a special Excel workbook (xcel97 SR2, win 2k) Up until today it has worked flawlessly. All of a sudden when I click on a link the link opens like a charm but the workbook closes. Does anyone have an idea of why this behaviour is happening? thanks in advance... steve |

this happens with hyperlinks - by link, do you mean hyperlink.
To prevent this from happening, change something on the sheet of the workbook with the hyperlink and do save the file so that Excel considers the workbook "dirty" Regards, Tom Ogilvy "steve" wrote in message ... Web links in Excel closing workbook
Tom,
Thanks for the quick reply! Yes - they are hyperlinks. It used to work just fine. But not today. Tried your suggestion, but not only did the workbook still close, the Excel icon (for the opened session) on the "Start" bar (?) moved down. (never saw that one before either). Do you think I should reboot? steve "Tom Ogilvy" wrote in message ... this happens with hyperlinks - by link, do you mean hyperlink. I doubt you need to reboot - since you were opening another application,
perhaps you had too many icons on the task bar. This has always worked for me, so I can't say why it isn't working for you. Excel doesn't close the workbook if it thinks it needs to be saved (if it did, your changes would be lost). -- Regards, Tom Ogilvy "steve" wrote in message ... Tom, Thanks for the quick reply! Web links in Excel closing workbook
Tom,
Rebooted and everything and it still closes the workbook. Guess I have a bug somewhere. They did "inoculate" my computer for that blaster worm and it may have done something. I'll keep digging. There's no code in the workbook so can't Clean it. Maybe a virus check. And if that doesn't work, I'll just create a new workbook from what's there and see if that doesn't clean things up. Again, thanks for taking the time... steve "Tom Ogilvy" wrote in message ... I doubt you need to reboot - since you were opening another application, perhaps you had too many icons on the task bar.
