It sounds like the data got corrupted during sorting. If you can't control
that all rows and columns selected before sorting, then don't sort the
master copy of data. Sorting is just one of many ways to arrange data. The
ultimate goal of sorting is to assist user in locating certain records.
There are other powerful tools in Excel that do a nice job in extracting and
analyzing data. Try 1) Auto Filter, 2) Advanced Filter + Extract data to a
new sheet or 3) Pivot Table.

For me, I scare of sorting all the time, especially when I deal with someone
else data. That's why I never touch the master copy of data. I do not
think this is just a "Play Safe' approach. I think the raw data should be
left the way it is. All records under the same customer do not necessarily
get together, as long as I have a quick and efficient way to extract them
and put them into a nice report. I would like to hear what others say about
this.

I have a spreadsheet that I keep getting info from different rows on to
the
wrong rows. This has happened several times.
I first thought (and I really try to be very careful not to do this!) that
I
sorted some of the rows with out including all of the rows. I always try
to
click on the upper left hand square before doing any sort!

What can I do to prevent this data corruption, or make it so I can recover
my data?
I am thinking about a extra spreadsheet and anytime the data is changed in
a
row, that the whole row be copied to this spreadsheet. Would this work?
any
other ideas?

I have just lost about 9 days worth of calls (about 7 hours a day) due to
this corruption. I do have some backups, but I don't know when the data
got
corrupted.
