Default Excel Attachments not opening in Outlook

Something happened to my excel 2002 program recently that I am not able to
open an Excel attachment directly from outlook. I have to save the
attachment, open Excel and then open the file that way. Word, powerpoint,
etc all open fine from Outlook. I also have the problem when trying to open
an excel file from any location. I have to do it directly from Excel. Any
ideas??
