Default DSUM Problem

does anyone know the answer to this??? please i'm going to have to hunt
down and hurt bill gates soon....

it seems like something that should be easy to do in excel i cant be
the only one who needs to do this (the help sections arent helpful on
this).....

i've explored the pivot table option too but that doesnt do what i want
it to do as far as i can see unless anyone can enlighten me further on
them
