Default any way to access data in unopened excel

I have two excel files. One file, say a.xls needs to link to some data
from another file b.xls. Is it possible to do so without opening the
file b.xls?

=[OtherFile.xls]Sheet1!$A$1

This formula will bring in the value in the referenced workbook, sheet, and
cell
