Help needed! - How do I save a filtered sheet?
Hello everyone,
I have a excel spread sheet containing approx 45,000 zip codes. When I apply a filter to one of the columns (to remove the data I don't need) I'm left with 22,000 records. Now how can I save a file which contains only the 22,000 rows/records I need?. I tried everything including copy and paste with no luck, certainly it must be possible? Thanks, Robert |

Help needed! - How do I save a filtered sheet?
That's a puzzler... When I make a list, AutoFilter and confine my results to include only part of the list, then select the entire list and Copy - Paste into a new sheet, only the values that are visible in the list are Pasted. For instance, lets say a list contains: Row:Value 1:80245 2:80433 3:33093 4:90878 5:18274 And I select the entire list, AutoFilter and confine my result to include only those values containing the number "4" I get this: Row:Value 1:80245 2:80433 5:18274 Now If I Select those cells (click in the first cell, drag down to the last) then Copy - Paste in Cell 1A in a new sheet, the sheet shows this: 1:80245 2:80433 3:18274 Notice that in the first list, after being Filtered, rows 3 and 4 are hidden. After being pasted, those rows are not hidden, but do not exist. Thanks for the reply Brian and Bruce.
I think Bruce hit on the head when he mentioned which version. I'm using Excel 2000, from the office 2000 package. Unlike your Brian, when I copied and paste the sheet after applying the filter it pasted the hidden fields as well in the new sheet. I ended up finding the answer how to fix the problem, which is as follows. (Hopefully someone else will need the solution) After applying the filter and before copying the data, hit F5 and then click special, then place a mark in the "visible cells only" radio button. Now when you copy and paste the data, only the filtered results will be on the new sheet. Thanks again for the replies! Robert |

IIRC some earlier versions of xl did this. The OP did not specify which version of xl he was using. This could explain it :) Bruce ---------------------------------------- I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people. You're wrong, of course.
